Are we avoiding the big issues??

As I approach the upcoming days, I am surprised that there seem to be few sessions if any, looking at the fall-out and consequent implications of the Global Financial Crisis for European countries and Europe as a whole.  Watching Europe from the other side of the world we see pictures of civil unrest.  We see governments introducing austerity budgets which no doubt will have a significant impact on everyone, especially the poor and vulnerable, and those that support them including the NGO sector.  Walking the streets of Brussels yesterday – to beat the jet lag – I was struck by how quiet it was.  Few people in the cafes, some tourists but not many, few people in shops.

I have a nagging feeling that when I look at the program the big issues facing Europe today are not being addressed!
